Africa is home to some of the world’s most diverse and unique wildlife, but these populations are increasingly endangered. Key threats include habitat loss, climate change, illegal hunting for meat and poaching for wildlife products.
Recognizing the urgent need for conservation, Africa Global Logistics (AGL) subsidiary, CAMRAIL, is taking action – using its resources to make a tangible contribution to wildlife protection.
In its latest initiative, CAMRAIL, the national railway operator for Cameroon, has partnered with WildAid, a non-profit organization focused on ending illegal wildlife trade. Together, the organizations are raising public awareness of the importance of wildlife protection through a campaign featuring short films on passenger trains.
The collaboration showcases WildAid’s short film series titled “Unsung Heroes of Conservation.” The series highlights men and women across the African continent working to protect endangered species and support local communities. By shining a light on the importance of protecting wildlife, these films aim to inspire a new generation of conservation-minded citizens.
CAMRAIL passengers travelling between the Cameroonian cities of Yaoundé and Douala can watch the film series during their journey. Pascal Miny, General Manager of CAMRAIL, commented on the project:
“CAMRAIL’s participation in this campaign confirms our determination to contribute to the protection of the fauna and flora of Cameroon, by supporting all the initiatives that go in this direction.”
The collaboration with WildAid is the latest in a series of commitments by CAMRAIL to protect Cameroon’s local wildlife and rich ecosystem.
Since the early 2000s, the passenger and freight train operator has partnered with the country’s Ministry of Forests and Wildlife to combat trafficking and poaching. As part of this collaboration, CAMRAIL banned the transport of protected species and implemented strict baggage checks, effectively hindering bushmeat traders from using its trains to supply meat to Yaoundé.
CAMRAIL’s collaboration with WildAid is a shining example of the portfolio’s work to preserve the global environment and build a brighter future.
CAMRAIL will continue supporting initiatives safeguarding Cameroon’s natural habitat through its multiple partnerships. These partnerships with the government and non-government organizations (NGOs) can bring about positive economic and social reform in Cameroon.
